Mel and Mel Eat at: The Firepit

The Firepit is an unpretentious fast-food type place, on the east side of Yonge. You order at the counter, the tables and chairs are like the ones at Burger King, and the cutlery is plastic. The plates, however, are china, and the food is just fine.

Clearly a family business, the Firepit is a friendly place that is happy to see you walk in. Mel and I especially appreciate the girl at the cash, who obviously enjoys her work and always has a bright smile. She also remembered us on our second visit. The Firepit serves big home-made burgers, good fries, large portions of souvlaki, and generous Greek salads. The souvlaki is tender and the toppings are generous. (They have lots of other foods as well, but we haven't tried them yet.) They serve breakfast early in the day, too, including omelettes as well as bacon and eggs.

The Firepit serves Coke drinks, as well as bottles of Fruitopia. Expect to pay about $10 for two.
